Hello, I have a Fuerte Avocado in my backyard. I have planted it 6 years ago. Two years ago, it produced nine good sized fruits. Last year, it had fruited few avocados, but then they all dropped. This year, the tree has thousands of flowers, but there aren’t any small, green avocado fruits fruiting. The tree is about 14 to 16 feet tall and about 14 to 16 feet wide. While it is planted in a semi-shade, it does receive lot of sun after 12 noon. I also have a Hass Avocado planted in full sun, but it’s only been planted about a year or two. It has set tiny fruits and they drop since the tree is still young. This tree is about 4 to 5 feet tall, and about 60 feet away from the Fuerte. My question is, why isn’t Fuerte showing any signs of fruits please? All the flowers are dropping, and I don’t see any evidence of any fruiting. There are no little green round baby avocados within the flowers. One more question please. I found these tiny brown beetles on the flowers of the avocado tree. Is this a bad bug? Attachments

The tree is setting fruit since about two weeks ago. I had thought it will not set fruit again this year. The tree sure did drop (literally) tens of thousands of flowers before setting any fruit. I live south of West Covina.

I've heard it estimated that a mature avocado tree will open up about one million flowers each year, so you've got to figure only a very small percentage need to set fruit in order for the tree to be loaded. I'm from Glendora and I know our area is great for the Fuerte variety. So unless you're in a strange microclimate, you should have no problem there.
