This is the data for first crop from Hass on a rootstock we are evaluating. Tree planted Oct 11, 2011, Grew to approximately 5 feet during 2012 as a single leader. Flowered and set Spring 2013. Currently 6 feet tall single leader loaded with new bloom for 2015 crop. The time it took to pick this tree was less than a minute clipping the fruit as all the fruit are obviously within reach. (Until you have been 35 feet up in a tree with a 15 foot picking pole in your hand, you can't appreciate this concept.) This is growing in root rot soil that is very heavy and with a high clay content. I keep my trees at 7'X7' This makes a good case for keeping trees at a small size and at a juvenile state which equals large fruit and a high density approach with smaller trees to facilitate harvest, pest control and maintenance.
